Different Vietnamese Accents

\”Accent\” is always a controversial topic, not only for the Vietnamese language. However, here are some \”facts\” about Vietnamese accents:

1. If you are in Northern Vietnam (Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong), 95% of the time you will listen to the Northern Accent.
2. In Southern Vietnam: if you are in Ho Chi Minh City, you will listen to 50% Northern accents and 50% Southern accents. If you are in other cities, 80% of the time, you will listen to Southern Vietnamese accent.
3. Central Vietnamese speak the Central Vietnamese accent with insiders (people from the same regions) and speak Northern Vietnamese accent with outsiders.
4. Google Translate use Northern Vietnamese accent.
5. 80% of news in Vietnam is in the Northern accent.
6. 80% Vietnamese songs are sung in the Northern Vietnamese accent. (the remain are country music/folks).

At Hello Vietnamese, we teach 80% in the Northern Vietnamese accent. However, for listening practice, as we use authentic materials, it will be in all Vietnamese accents.
